Day 1: Tues 28 Jul – Home to Brisbane to Singapore to London

Besi drove me to the Hervey Bay Airport and I was checked in all the way to Amsterdam by 8:35am! Now I don’t have to worry about my bike anymore. I wanted Besi to stay until I left, but it was probably better that she did leave, gives us both a bit of space. The crew from Better Homes and Garden sat next to me at the airport.

Had a quiet and uneventful flight to Singapore.

Had a great flight from Singapore to London. Was in seat 41K in a B747, which was a great spot all round – there was no seats behind me as it was an exit. I slept well after taking a calmative Besi had recommended.

Ride: 50km It was 8:16am before I started to feel a little better. Needless to say, I had a very ordinary day on the bike. I was on the point of collapse most of the day.  When we got to our hotel, the bed was very welcoming! Graham brought up some soup and a milkshake which I consumed then read for about half an hour. Day 8: Tue 4 Aug – Passau to Aschach an der Donau (Austria)

Ride: 64km Rained off and on but only light rain. We were cycling along the river and through forests for most of the day. Had to catch a little ferry across the river at once stage.  Twin room for €56 and a nice dinner for €30 including a small carafe of wine each. Day 13: Sun 9 Aug – Vienna

Not sure what we did today, but I made the decision to go home regardless of cost. Contacted Besi who contacted QANTAS and changed my departure date.
