Day 11: Fri 7 Aug – Melk to Zwentendorf
Ride: 70km
Woke up feeling a little better but not much. A very ordinary breakfast with smokers all around us, so we left quickly.
It was
a hot day but we rode through some nice villages and vineyards. We stopped at
an internet café/library and booked a room at Ibis in Vienna (our next stop)
for two nights. The hot day continued into the night and even though we were in
a brand-new hotel there were no fans, so our sleep was not the best.
Wachau - one of Austria's premier wine growing regions and busy tourist areas
Wachau - UNESCO World Heritage Site
A lovely, well looked after cemetery
On the altar of a locked chapel in a small village; many had holes in them ?from one of the wars?
Wachau
Dürnstein Castle on the hill near Wachau; where King Richard was imprisoned by Duke Leopold (1192-1193)
